Wardrobe Planning 101
If you want to look great and stay in budget, wardrobe
planning is essential. When you know what you
have in your closet, you can go anywhere appropriately dressed
at a moment's notice. No more last minute dashes to
the mall to grab something, no maxing out your credit card to
find the "perfect dress."
Leave the stress behind and get your act and image
together with a little Wardrobe Planning 101.
Here's how:
1. Consider Your Lifestyle
Jot down the activities you do on a regular basis and note
how much time you spend at each, like work, school, the gym,
etc. You should have the most clothes for the activities
you do the most, but you also need to have something for those
some-time activities, too.

2. Factor In Special Occasions and
Situations
A birthday dinner, a holiday party, an
unexpected funeral for great Aunt Selma. These
are the budget-busters: the last minute, "Oh my
gosh! I don't have anything to wear!" scenarios
that send our credit balances quivering. If you
plan for it and have something in your closet
ahead of time, you'll never do the mad
mall dash again.

3. Align Your Wardrobe With Your
Life
Now go through your closet and see how well
your existing wardrobe services your life. If
you have tons of work clothes but no weekend casual apparel, it
doesn't align. Have tons of jeans but no after 5 and a
growing list of evening engagements? Uh-oh.
Put on or lost a lot of weight recently and nothing really
fits? Houston, we have a problem.
This is why you get stressed and frustrated! It's like
jumping in your car, late for work, only to discover your
teenage daughter has left you with an empty tank of gas.
You don't have what you need to get where you need to go!
4. Note the Holes
If you're like most women, you'll probably notice some
gaping holes in your wardrobe following Step3. You may
not go to many cocktail parties or funerals or freezing cold
climates, but when you do, you need to have appropriate
attire. Make note of these holes: you need to fill
them.
5. Fill In As Your Budget Allows
Chances are, you're not going to be able to replace
everything in your wardrobe at once. So start with the
pieces that will make the biggest difference first. If
you just moved from Florida to Vermont, for example, you're
probably going to need a winter coat. Just started dating
a cute, socially prominent PR man who wants you on his arm at
these events? Hit the cocktail attire sale rack.
Lost your job and need to start interviewing? A classic
suit is in order. Watch for sales and specials to make
the most of your budget.
Wardrobe planning isn't difficult, but it can make a HUGE
difference in how you look, feel, and spend your money.
Figure out what you do, what you need to look your best for
each type of activity, and fill in the holes in your
wardrobe. With just a little practice, you'll be looking
amazing every day!

"I am the
perfect description of the type of person that
impulse buys. I felt like you were writing
specifically for me! I learned that I
could pair clothing I never thought about
pairing before! You have saved me and my
budget, which is pretty non-existent for
clothing. Me and my husband thank you! I look
forward to the "new" me..."
